Toshiba Tec's (TYO:6588) parent Toshiba plans to invest about 60 billion yen to expand its facilities in the Philippines to double production capacity for hard disk drives (HDDs) used in AI data centers by fiscal 2027, Nikkei Asia reported Friday.

Toshiba will add production lines and introduce HDDs with up to 40% higher per-unit storage capacity, targeting a 30% medium-term share of the global HDD market by storage capacity, the report said.

Toshiba also plans to develop for mass production 65-terabyte-class drives by 2030 and eventually 100-terabyte-class drives, it said.

Toshiba did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
