Telstra Group (ASX:TLS) launched Temporary Disaster Roaming to help support connectivity if a customer's mobile network is affected during an extreme weather event in regional and rural areas, the telecommunications company said in a statement on Thursday.
When Temporary Disaster Roaming is turned on and available in an affected area, a customer can connect their phone to another participating carrier's mobile network with no extra charges, the company said.
Optus and TPG Telecom (ASX:TPG) customers may be able to connect through the Telstra network if it is the only network operating in the affected area, per the statement.
TPG shares fell past 1% in morning trade Thursday.
