Surrozen (SRZN) is advancing its eye drug, SZN-8141, into human clinical trials after receiving clearance from the US FDA to treat diabetic macular edema, the company said Friday.

The FDA clearance satisfies the second closing milestone of its March 2025 private placement, providing the company with $95.1 million in gross proceeds, according to a statement.

Surrozen said it expects to use the proceeds from the second closing to support the development of SZN-8141 and SZN-8143, as well as its broader operating activities.

Additionally, the biotechnology company expects to dose the first patient in phase 1b/2a Duet clinical study evaluating SZN-8141 in patients with diabetic macular edema in Q4, it said.
