Alibaba Group (BABA) has held preliminary talks with Spanish renewable energy producer Solaria Energia y Medio Ambiente about potentially supplying power for a data center in Spain, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The report said power would potentially be supplied from a Solaria plant in Puertollano, about 240 kilometers south of Madrid, and that the company has also discussed the project with other potential power suppliers.
The talks are at an earlier stage than Alibaba's recently announced plans to establish cloud regions in Finland and the Netherlands over the next 12 months, while expanding its data center footprint in Germany and France, according to Bloomberg.
Alibaba and Solaria did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
