Bitcoin Edges Lower as Markets Weigh Persistently High Yields

0100 GMT - Bitcoin edges down 0.2% to $83,483 in Asia after closing out one of its best quarters in years, as traders parse cooler-than-expected U.S. inflation data. While that tempered expectations of another Federal Reserve rate hike in October and initially drove yields lower, much of that move reversed, suggesting that concerns about inflation and debt remain, says Antonio Di Giacomo at XS.com. After the data, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said inflation is still too high, and pointed to the upward revision to GDP as suggesting a resilient economy. High Treasury yields remain the top counterweight for Bitcoin, giving investors an alternative that provides regular income. Short term, the $84,000 area serves as a reference point for assessing whether Bitcoin can stabilize after its pullback, Di Giacomo says.
