What's Moving Markets Today?

Stocks opened higher on Friday after a choppy trading week. Here's what's pushing major U.S indexes into the green:

-- Jobs Report: This morning's employment report showed the U.S. economy added far fewer jobs than expected in September. In this case, bad news is good news: investors had fretted that a fast-growing economy was contributing to a persistent inflation problem that, in recent weeks, has sent bond yields soaring. A cooling labor market means the Federal Reserve is less likely to hike interest rates at upcoming meetings. The news took some pressure off bond yields, and sent stock futures higher before the open.

-- Oil prices: Benchmark Brent crude futures fell more than 3% in morning trading, following reports earlier this week that more oil is flowing through the Strait of Hormuz. Diesel prices also dropped, after European officials met to discuss releasing strategic reserves of the fuel.

-- Risk-on Vibes: Tumbling odds of a Fed rate hike in October and December seem to have reignited investors' appetite for riskier stocks. Shares of chipmakers, the Magnificent Seven tech firms and economically-sensitive businesses like Domino's Pizza and cruise operator Royal Caribbean Group all rose in early trading.
