Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (TYO:7011) mulls 100 billion yen investments, expanding commercial shipbuilding capacity at its Shimonoseki facility by 25% in fiscal 2028, Nikkei reported Thursday.

The project will be supported by subsidies from Japan's transport ministry fund, under which Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' unit Mitsubishi Shipbuilding will construct large merchant vessels, including ferries and cargo ships.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries told MT Newswires that the plan to increase commercial shipbuilding capacity by 25% was announced in January 2025, but it declined to comment on or verify other details.
