Woolworths Group's (ASX:WOW) New Zealand unit confirmed it will close its New Zealand customer care center and shift about 130 jobs to Australia, according to a Tuesday statement by Workers First Union.
The union said it will work to ensure Woolworths meets its redundancy obligations and pursues redeployment wherever possible.
In response to MT Newswires' request for comment, Woolworths New Zealand confirmed that following completion of a formal consultation process with team members and union representatives, it will integrate its Auckland customer care operations into its existing customer support network in Sydney.
Mark Wolfenden, director of digital and e-commerce at Woolworths, said the company has engaged specialist career transition partners and is connecting with local employers recruiting for customer support talent, with support packages including redundancy compensation.
