Energy stocks were lower Tuesday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index decreasing 0.9% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) shedding 0.8%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was falling 1.8%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index added 0.2%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 2.1% to $90.72 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract shed 1.3% to $103.89 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures lost 2.3% to $3.04 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Petrobras (PBR) has agreed to buy roughly 0.8 million metric tons per year of liquefied natural gas from Cheniere Energy (LNG) subsidiary Cheniere Marketing on a free-on-board basis for 22 years in a sale and purchase agreement, Cheniere said Tuesday. Petrobras shares were down 0.8%, and Cheniere Energy was shedding 0.5%.
