0430 GMT - Fewer homes are expected to be sold in the U.K. this year than in 2025 as the Middle East conflict pushes up energy prices and mortgage rates, property website Zoopla says. It forecasts sales of around 1.1 million homes in 2026, compared with 1.2 million last year. Around 9% fewer homes were sold over the four weeks ended Sept. 20 compared with the same period last year, while the number of homes on the market for sale are up 5%, according to Zoopla's latest house price index. "Higher buying costs are weighing on demand with sales agreed falling across every region and country of the U.K.," Zoopla says. Average mortgage rates are at their highest level for three years at about 5.2% compared with 4% at the start of the year, Zoopla says.
