Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials rose amid optimism about the outlook for economic activity.
Copper futures rose for the sixth straight session in New York, and closed within 0.7% of all-time highs. Market participants have dubbed the industrial metal "Dr. Copper" because of its role as a leading economic indicator.
Richmond Federal Reserve President Tom Barkin warned that one rate hike might not be enough to tame inflation.
