Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials ticked up as traders rotated back into risky sectors.
Copper futures rose for the fifth consecutive session, and closed within 2% of their all-time highs in New York.
The industrial metal, sometimes called "Dr. Copper" because of its role as a leading economic indicator, is in particularly high demand because of its use in electric wiring for data centers.
Gold futures slipped after Chicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee argued that the central bank could no longer afford to wait out energy shocks.
