0753 ET - Some 22% of small businesses in Canada are in weak or critical condition, research from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business shows. The trade war with the U.S. is adding fresh uncertainty for small business owners who have spent years navigating rising costs, CFIB says. "It's no surprise small business owners are pressing pause on hiring, investment and expansion as they wait and see what comes next," says Corinne Pohlmann, the federation's executive vice president. Half of small businesses say they wouldn't advise someone to start a business right now, with 88% of those citing high costs, 86% pointing to economic uncertainty, and 65% noting a high tax burden, CFIB says.
