CSPC Pharmaceutical Group Limited (01093) has announced that the Phase Ib clinical trial (JMT206–003) of its self-developed JMT206 Injection for weight management in overweight or obese adult patients has officially commenced at the first research site in China.

The product is registered as a Class 1 therapeutic biological product. It is a recombinant fully human monoclonal antibody targeting activin receptor type IIA ("ActR-IIA") and type IIB ("ActR-IIB"), capable of specifically binding to ActR-IIA and ActR-IIB on the surface of target cell membranes and blocking the activation of ActR-IIA and ActR-IIB signaling pathways, thereby promoting muscle mass gain and reducing body weight.

Preclinical studies have demonstrated that the product exhibits favorable muscle-building and fat-reducing effects, along with a good safety and tolerability profile.

The group obtained the Drug Clinical Trial Approval Notice issued by the National Medical Products Administration of the People's Republic of China in November 2025 for the product's use in overweight or obesity indications, and initiated a Phase I clinical trial following the approval. Data from the Phase I clinical trial preliminarily validated the product's safety, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic characteristics in healthy participants.

The Phase Ib clinical trial launched this time is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-group trial designed to evaluate the safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic characteristics of multiple subcutaneous administrations of the product, either as monotherapy or in combination with semaglutide injection, in obese participants. Currently, participant recruitment and screening for the clinical trial are actively underway.
