South Korea plans to more than double its renewable energy installed capacity to over 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2030, while expanding power infrastructure and energy storage systems (ESS) to meet growing electricity demand, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment said on Tuesday.

According to data from the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the country's current renewable energy installed capacity stands at approximately 40GW.

With the rapid development of high-tech industries and accelerating electrification, expanding renewable energy supply has become an urgent priority.

However, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment said that the lack of transmission and distribution networks is hindering the broader use of renewable energy.

In addition to building new transmission and distribution networks, the government also plans to deploy a large number of energy storage systems to store surplus renewable energy for use in areas where the existing grid is congested.
