The nation is set to reinforce its commitment to preserving its arable land base, ensuring that the total area remains above the critical threshold of 1.8 billion mu. This pledge was made clear during a recent press conference held by the State Council Information Office.

Liu Guohong, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Chief Inspector of National Natural Resources, outlined a comprehensive strategy on September 22. The approach will integrate three key dimensions: protecting the quantity, quality, and ecology of arable land to solidify the foundation of national food security.

Building on this land protection strategy, the government will also work to establish a complete and transparent ledger of natural resource assets. This involves the rational allocation of various resource elements, with a focus on optimizing the incremental use of land. Specifically, a new coordination mechanism will be developed to link the allocation of new urban construction land quotas with the growth of the permanent resident population, thereby providing greater development space for regions with competitive advantages.
