Sources said on Saturday that the United States will provide approximately $4.2 billion in loans to Vistra to increase its nuclear power generation.
The source said that US Energy Secretary Wright will announce this news on Monday at the Vistra nuclear power plant located on the shores of Lake Erie in Ohio.
This loan will be used to increase power generation, specifically to carry out "power uprates" at at least three of Vistra's four nuclear power plants, a move that does not require new licenses from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
The US Department of Energy and Vistra have not yet immediately responded to requests for comment.
