Official data released on the evening of September 20 indicates that China's e-commerce sector has maintained positive development during the first eight months of this year, with digital and physical retail channels increasingly integrated to drive consumption growth. Online retail sales of both goods and services nationwide expanded by 4.6% year-on-year during this period. According to calculations, this performance contributed approximately 1.3 percentage points to the overall growth of retail sales of consumer goods and services in the broader economy.

Digital and health-oriented products have emerged as fast-growing categories. Business big data monitoring shows that from January to August, online retail sales of mobile phones and outdoor apparel rose by 6.8% and 6.9%, respectively. The integration of instant retail and online services into everyday consumption scenarios has also gained traction, with monitoring of major e-commerce platforms revealing double-digit growth in online retail sales for both tourism and lifestyle services during the same period.

The push to integrate digital commerce with rural development continues to yield results. Data monitoring indicates that online retail sales of agricultural products increased by 12.5% over the first eight months, reflecting the deepening of initiatives that enable farmers to sell directly to consumers through digital channels.

International cooperation under the Silk Road E-commerce framework has expanded to include 38 partner countries, bringing a wider array of quality products to the domestic market. According to monitoring data, online retail sales of Kazakh camel milk, Kenyan coffee beans, and Argentine beef have all maintained strong growth trajectories from January through August, highlighting the increasing diversity of goods available to Chinese consumers through cross-border e-commerce channels.
