Under the full Mid-Autumn moon, warmth spreads across Pudong. In recent days, Pudong New Area has carried out activities under the theme of "Our Festival: Mid-Autumn," delivering quality artistic resources, traditional folk experiences, and youth-oriented communication to different groups, making the traditional festival more heartfelt and accessible through civilized practice.
A performance brings blessings to airport builders
On September 24, the Pudong New Area Civilization Office, together with the Shanghai Airport Construction Command, held a Mid-Autumn condolence performance for frontline builders of the Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion Project at the Airport Builders' Town, under the theme "Sharing the Same Bright Moon in a Foreign Land, United in Forging Glory." Sichuan opera face-changing, acrobatics, tai chi, and other intangible cultural heritage performances took turns on stage, while song-and-dance acts and magic shows followed one after another, drawing continuous applause and laughter. This performance was also an important part of the New Era Civilization Practice literary and artistic empowerment program, relying on the Airport Builders' Town New Era Civilization Practice distinctive venue to channel quality artistic resources down to the grassroots and care for frontline builders. "They also brought us performances before Labor Day this year, and we all loved them," said a builder from Sichuan with a smile. "Although I still can't go home this Mid-Autumn, celebrating together with everyone is just as lively." The Pudong Airport Phase IV Expansion Project is a major engineering project that helps elevate Shanghai's status as an international aviation hub. The Airport Builders' Town and the Airfield Area Builders' Town, as two large supporting living areas for the Phase IV project, have now accommodated nearly 10,000 frontline builders in total. On key holidays such as Labor Day, National Day, and Mid-Autumn Festival, professional art troupes are invited to perform, allowing builders from all over the country to feel the warmth of home in a foreign land.
A garden party lets residents experience the charm of Mid-Autumn immersively
In recent days, civilization practice venues across the district have simultaneously carried out "Our Festival: Mid-Autumn" themed activities, creating a strong atmosphere of citywide coordination and public participation. On September 25, the special event "The Moon of Pudong Shines on Every Kind of Reunion" — "Celebrating Mid-Autumn at the Civilization Practice Center" — opened warmly at the Pudong New Area New Era Civilization Practice Center. The event took the form of a Mid-Autumn garden party, using an emotional thread of "gazing at the moon, performing for the moon, chanting to the moon, and reuniting under the moon" to string together a civilization practice journey that could be toured, played, and felt. Knowledge quizzes traced the origins of Mid-Autumn, poetry chain games expressed feelings for the bright moon, picture guessing revisited the legends of Chang'e and the Jade Rabbit, and moon-phase hopscotch turned the mystery of waxing and waning into laughter and joy; joyful moon-clipping and moon-hugging photo moments captured reunions. Children wore handmade intangible cultural heritage cloud collars and sang "Jade Plate" in chorus, singing the timeless charm of "not knowing the moon as a child" into their hearts. "Bringing my child to make a cloud collar let us experience traditional customs while strengthening our parent-child bond," said Ms. Chen, a resident who attended with her daughter. "This kind of event is very meaningful, letting children learn through play and feel the charm of traditional culture." In addition, on September 23, the Pudong New Area Civilization Office also partnered with Oriental Financial Channel Pudong to hold a "Reunion Under the Full Mid-Autumn Moon" handmade lantern-making activity at Wangjiang Station No. 4, allowing residents to experience the flavor of Mid-Autumn through hands-on practice.
A little orange cat makes traditional festival outreach younger
Pudong New Area continues to use the "Civilized Little Orange Cat" IP image as a carrier, focusing on the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival by producing and releasing Mid-Autumn-themed promotional videos that spread Mid-Autumn culture in a relaxed, lively, and internet-friendly way, expanding the reach and influence of festival publicity. It is reported that this orange kitten, in the image of a "civilization practitioner," moves through landmark scenes such as the Pudong Art Museum, the Lujiazui circular pedestrian bridge, and the riverside promenade, integrating advocacy for civilized transportation, civilized pet ownership, and the clean plate campaign into urban landscapes and life stories through anthropomorphic, lighthearted plots, and has become a bright calling card for Pudong. "Telling civilization stories from a kitten's perspective is easier for young people to accept than traditional publicity methods," said a relevant person in charge of the Pudong New Area Civilization Office. "We hope to integrate civilized advocacy into fun narratives so that everyone can feel the warmth of the city in a relaxed atmosphere."
