Taiwan Affairs Office Responds to Lai Ching-te's Claim of Over NT$1.3 Trillion Defense Budget for Next Year

On September 30, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office held a regular press conference.

A reporter asked: Recently, Lai Ching-te claimed that next year's defense budget will exceed NT$1.3 trillion, to be invested in military procurement, international cooperation, and defense autonomy, with particular emphasis on strengthening industries such as drones and robotics. What is your comment on this?

Spokesperson Zhang Han stated that the Lai Ching-te authorities stubbornly adhere to the "Taiwan independence" separatist stance, vainly attempting to "seek independence through force" and "rely on foreign forces to seek independence," and are recklessly squandering the hard-earned money of the Taiwanese people.

The massive defense spending not only crowds out welfare and social expenditures for people on the island, harming the vital interests of the Taiwanese people, but also pushes Taiwan step by step toward a more dangerous situation, dragging the Taiwanese people into becoming cannon fodder for "Taiwan independence."

Such harmful and destructive acts that harm Taiwan and destroy Taiwan, and that bring about their own demise, will surely meet strong opposition. No matter how many budgets Lai Ching-te allocates or how much weaponry he traffics in, he cannot escape the inevitable fate of defeat for "Taiwan independence."
