Pinglu Canal Creates a Green Pathway for Fish with AI Facial Recognition System

The Pinglu Canal's Qingnian Hub sits right at the doorstep of fish schools. A 10-meter drop acts like a steep gate — fish can slide down easily but find it nearly impossible to swim back up.

To solve this, the Pinglu Canal project built a dedicated fishway for the fish. The fishway stretches 480 meters in a zigzag shape, using vertical slot designs to create 120 resting pools, turning a steep slope into a gentle one. An AI fish facial recognition system has also been installed along the fishway.

Beyond this, the Pinglu Canal project has also built bridges for animals, relocated ancient trees, and set up anti-pollution screens for mangrove forests.

Connecting rivers to the sea is an engineering triumph. Allowing small animals to freely follow their own paths is an even greater victory for civilization.
