Yunnan's Trade with ASEAN Surpasses 100 Billion Yuan in First Eight Months

Kunming Customs announced on September 30 that in the first eight months of this year, Yunnan Province's import and export volume with ASEAN reached 103.22 billion yuan (RMB, same below), a year-on-year increase of 20.3%, setting a new record for the same period in history.

Yunnan is located in the southwestern border of China, bordering Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam, and serves as an important hub for China's connection to ASEAN. Along its 4,060-kilometer border, there are 29 ports, and the China-Laos Railway connects Kunming, Yunnan, with Vientiane, Laos.

According to Kunming Customs statistics, in the first eight months of this year, Yunnan's total goods trade import and export volume reached 194.67 billion yuan, an increase of 8.3%. Among this, imports and exports with ASEAN totaled 103.22 billion yuan, up 20.3%, reaching a historic high for the same period.

In the first eight months, Yunnan's agricultural product exports amounted to 13.25 billion yuan, up 3.6%, maintaining the top position in central and western China. Fresh cut flower exports reached 1.03 billion yuan, and coffee exports totaled 450 million yuan, both ranking first nationwide in export scale.

During the same period, exports of "new three" products—lithium batteries, photovoltaic products, and electric vehicles—reached 3.61 billion yuan, a 1.3-fold increase, showing significant growth momentum.

On the import side, in the first eight months, Yunnan imported 36.46 billion yuan worth of metal ores, up 30.5%; imported agricultural products totaled 28.44 billion yuan, up 13.1%. Among these, durian imports reached 13.52 billion yuan, up 43.3%, ranking first nationwide.

In the first eight months, Yunnan's port operations showed positive trends. The number of inbound and outbound transport vehicles at ports reached 5.27 million, up 21.1%, and the cargo volume handled was 29.9 million tons, up 10%, both achieving rapid growth.
