OpenAI may be planning to launch a premium subscription tier priced at $500, though the information has not yet been officially confirmed.
On September 24, according to tech information tracking account TestingCatalog, OpenAI is preparing to introduce a ChatGPT subscription plan called "Pro Max" with a monthly fee of $500, and it may be supported by Cerebras infrastructure.
If the plan ultimately materializes, it would give the company a new way to charge a premium for advanced features and extremely large computing workloads.
Currently, the plans listed on OpenAI's official pricing page include only six tiers: Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise, with no Pro Max option appearing.
Market Attention Shifts to DevDay 2026
According to TestingCatalog's description, the main difference between Pro Max and the existing Pro plan is the addition of a "Fastest Work and Codex" feature, while usage limits may also be further increased.
However, the report did not explain exactly how much faster the "fastest work speed" would be, nor did it specify the exact form of Codex access, or whether Cerebras would ultimately provide the computing support for the plan.
TestingCatalog linked this rumor to "long-duration task" scenarios, meaning types of work that require ChatGPT to continuously perform operations over a longer period rather than merely answering a single question.
According to the report, more details may be revealed on September 29 at OpenAI DevDay 2026 in San Francisco, but this is only the account's speculation.
In OpenAI's official event announcement, no content regarding the Pro Max plan was mentioned.
