US factory orders increased 0.1% in August, falling short of the median estimate of 0.2% growth, according to Census Bureau data.
The forecasts from 35 economists ranged from a decline of 0.2% to a gain of 0.7%. July factory orders were revised down to 0.8% from 0.9%.
Factory orders excluding transportation equipment rose 0.3% in August, compared with a 0.7% increase in July.
Durable goods orders fell 0.1% in August, compared with an initial reading of unchanged. Excluding transportation equipment, they rose 0.2%, versus an initial gain of 0.3%.
New orders for nondefense capital goods excluding aircraft increased 1.6%, in line with the initial reading. Shipments rose 0.5%, compared with an initial increase of 0.6%.
