Traffic Lights That Think and Utility Tunnels That Breathe: The Future City Embraces Tomorrow's Life

Buildings gain a dynamic, real-time synchronized digital twin in the cloud through digital modeling; on the streets, autonomous taxis intelligently serve residents' travel needs; in shops, smart robots become retail employees who make coffee and sell goods... In Xiong'an, we can see what future life looks like.

Here, future life is visible

During morning and evening rush hours, driving on the main roads of the Rongdong area, the speed stays around 40 kilometers per hour, and if you catch one green light, chances are you will hit green lights all the way. This is made possible by the green wave band set up by the Xiong'an Urban Computing Center, the city's brain. LiDAR and multi-functional information poles distributed along digital roads can capture traffic flow data in real time and transmit it to the city brain; AI algorithms adjust traffic signal timing based on the data, allowing vehicles to enjoy a green wave or encounter fewer red lights. This scenario has shortened the morning and evening rush hour duration on major roads in the Rongdong area by 15 minutes. This is the Xiong'an Urban Computing Center at night. At the Rongdong Urban Operation and Management Service Center, the command screen scrolls through various data including the number of residents who have moved in, water and gas usage, and real-time traffic volumes. In the past, we had to rely on manual patrols to find problems, walking step by step with our own feet, according to staff. Now, sitting in front of the big screen, every detail can be seen clearly. When the system detects a problem, such as garbage accumulating on a certain road section, it identifies it and generates a work order with one click, automatically dispatching it. From discovery to resolution, it generally takes just over ten minutes.

The care of the smart brain also extends to special groups. The system connects to water and gas usage data from the homes of elderly people living alone, using intelligent analysis to monitor their daily lives in real time. Once an abnormal situation such as prolonged non-use of water or gas occurs, the platform automatically generates an alert and pushes it to the community, and staff immediately visit the home, building an invisible safety net for elderly people living alone.

...In Xiong'an, future life is no longer an abstract concept but has become tangible, perceptible, and warm daily life.

Here, future industries are clustering

Striving to build an innovation highland for the new era and a model for promoting high-quality development, the Xiong'an New Area is vigorously developing three leading industries: aerospace information and satellite internet, digital intelligence economy and artificial intelligence, and new materials.

On the morning of August 19, the first Xiong'an-made satellite, Honghu-03, was launched into space aboard the Zhuque-3 reusable remote two carrier rocket at the Dongfeng Commercial Aerospace Innovation Test Zone. This is the first satellite in orbit from the Xiong'an New Area, independently developed by Blue Arrow Hongqing (Xiong'an) Space Technology Co., Ltd., which is based in the new area, marking the new area's aerospace information industry's achievement of a full-process closed loop from R&D and manufacturing to in-orbit application.

Today, with China Satellite Network as the leader, the new area has gathered nearly 70 aerospace information and satellite internet ecosystem enterprises and 9 innovation platforms. The leap from a single satellite to a full chain is unfolding. The artificial intelligence industry is also accelerating. In the Xiong'an Artificial Intelligence Industrial Park, nearly 100 enterprises gathered in just one year. Unlike the transformation model of AI plus traditional industries adopted by most cities, Xiong'an embeds artificial intelligence into the city's digital foundation, using the entire city as an AI technology testing ground. Scenarios such as smart construction sites, underground space navigation, and urban governance continue to open up, achieving two-way empowerment between technology research and development and scenario implementation.

The Xiong'an new materials industry has gathered a group of academician teams and national-level innovation platforms, laying out multiple tracks including high-performance metal additive manufacturing, ultra-high-purity crystal materials, and biomedical materials.

Here, the industrial chain has another way of opening up

In the Xiong'an New Area, the industrial chain has another way of opening up: themed buildings. The themed buildings in the Xiong'an New Area cover multiple fields including aerospace information, artificial intelligence, health communication, and smart transportation, with more than 770 signed enterprises. A relevant official from the Xiong'an New Area stated that in the process of building themed buildings, the enterprise service experience has been continuously optimized. In industrial parks where enterprises gather, such as the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park and Xiong'an Science Park, enterprise service centers have been established to provide one-stop value-added services for enterprises, from registration and establishment to employee social security, medical care, and housing. Upstairs and downstairs are the industrial chain, and door-to-door has become a circle of friends. Themed buildings make innovation no longer lonely and make innovation within reach.
