Gansu Province has officially rolled out its Silver Age Teaching Program for the 2026-2027 academic year, seeking to bring experienced educators back into the classroom. The provincial education department issued a public notice on September 21, 2026, calling for applications from across the country to fill a total of 130 positions, including two principal roles and 128 teaching posts.
These openings are distributed across seven cities and prefectures: Lanzhou, Tianshui, Linxia, Longnan, Pingliang, Jiuquan, and Zhangye. The initiative targets retired principals, teaching researchers, specially-appointed teachers, and backbone educators, with the aim of strengthening educational capacity in these regions.
Applicants must be retired educators, as those rehired by their original institutions do not qualify for this program. Candidates should be 65 years of age or younger and must hold a valid teaching certificate for the relevant subject area. While applicants should ideally possess intermediate-level professional titles or above, preference will be given to those with senior professional titles. Given the challenging environments, candidates must also be physically capable of working and living in high-altitude or mountainous areas.
Successful principal candidates will serve as vice principals at host schools, contributing to school management and administration. Teaching fellows, on the other hand, will focus primarily on classroom instruction while also undertaking a range of activities such as observing classes, delivering open lectures, organizing seminars, and hosting workshops. Additionally, they will mentor younger teachers and help schools improve their teaching management and research activities, thereby playing a demonstrative role in raising educational standards at the host institutions.
The service period for these educators is set at a minimum of one academic year, with an option to extend for consecutive years for those who perform well. Monthly stipends will be provided throughout the teaching period, amounting to a total of 20,000 yuan per academic year. This package covers work allowances, travel and transportation expenses, and accidental insurance premiums purchased by the host county. Furthermore, each host county will arrange dormitory accommodations for the teachers, complete with necessary living amenities.
