Samsung Group said on Tuesday it will invest a total of US$1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a US artificial intelligence infrastructure company backed by private equity firm KKR.
Samsung said six affiliates within the group are participating in the investment: Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. Samsung Electronics will contribute US$500 million, while the remaining five affiliates will together contribute US$500 million.
Helix was launched in June this year by KKR, the Kuwait Investment Authority, Nvidia, and US power company Vistra, and has raised more than US$10 billion in long-term committed capital. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, former chief executive of Amazon Web Services; Nvidia is its strategic partner, and Vistra is Helix's preferred power partner.
Samsung said that through this investment, several of its affiliates will join KKR, Nvidia, Vistra, and the Kuwait Investment Authority as founding investors in Helix.
As the AI industry expands rapidly, the importance of infrastructure supporting large-scale computing power — including data centers, power supply, and cooling systems — continues to rise. Insufficient power supply is a core bottleneck in the development of AI infrastructure, and Helix plans to address this challenge through its own investments and its partnership with Vistra.
Samsung said it hopes that through this investment, it can link the technological and business capabilities of its affiliates to generate synergies with Helix's infrastructure business.
