In recent years, airport projects have remained a key market segment that large construction enterprises closely pursue. Beyond terminal buildings, supporting works such as cargo hubs, transportation centers, and parking structures can also generate substantial scale. Two airport projects recently announced their results, with China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau ranking first in both. One is the new international cargo warehouse project at the Urumqi International Airport cargo hub, and the other is the transportation center and parking building project at Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport. Combined, the two projects amount to approximately 1.312 billion yuan based on currently disclosed figures.

The Urumqi International Airport tender covered the general contracting for construction of the new international cargo warehouse at the cargo hub. The project plans to build an international cargo warehouse with a total floor area of 79,786.10 square meters, of which the cargo station building accounts for approximately 69,233.18 square meters and serves as the main body of the entire project, with a maximum span of 32 meters. The interior also includes office space, airside canopies, and landside canopies. In addition to the cargo station, the project requires construction of passage entrances and office buildings, customs checkpoints, and a comprehensive building. The passage entrances and office buildings cover 788.8 square meters, the customs checkpoints cover 969.58 square meters, and the comprehensive building has 6,775.5 square meters above ground and 2,019.04 square meters underground, with four floors above ground and one below. Outdoor works are also extensive, covering water supply and drainage, heating pipelines, power supply, roads, and communication conduits, as well as ground treatment, earthwork, fire protection, and water and electricity pipeline networks. Once completed, the project will essentially constitute a fairly complete international air cargo facility, not merely a standalone warehouse.

Currently, the project has announced its winning candidates. First place goes to China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd. with a bid of 290,614,901.98 yuan. Second place is Shanghai Construction No. 5 Construction Group Co., Ltd. with a bid of 289,909,056.27 yuan. Third place is China Construction Xinjiang Construction Engineering (Group) Co., Ltd. with a bid of 287,836,016.8 yuan. All three bids are concentrated around 290 million yuan, and the first-place bidder did not submit the lowest price. For large airport projects of this kind, the final decision is based on comprehensive evaluation results rather than price alone.

On the other side, the general contracting for the transportation center and parking building at Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport has already announced its winning result. Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport itself is a massive airport construction project, mainly comprising two long-distance runways — the north runway at 3,600 meters and the south runway at 3,400 meters, with a spacing of 2,050 meters between them. It also includes a 500,000-square-meter terminal building, 194 aircraft parking stands, and supporting facilities for cargo, aircraft maintenance, and fire rescue. The construction scope awarded this time focuses on the comprehensive transportation center and the parking building. The comprehensive transportation center has a floor area of approximately 50,000 square meters, and the parking building has a floor area of approximately 173,000 square meters, totaling over 220,000 square meters combined. After the airport is completed, the transportation center and parking building will handle passenger access, transfers, and parking organization. The project scale itself is considerable, and it directly connects with the terminal area transportation system.

The winning entities are China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau Urban Construction Co., Ltd., China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., and China Construction Infrastructure Co., Ltd., with a winning bid amount of approximately 1.022 billion yuan. Adding it up, China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau's involvement in these two airport projects totals approximately 1.312 billion yuan. One project is in Xinjiang, focused on air cargo infrastructure, and the other is in Liaoning, focused on a large hub airport transportation center and parking building. The construction content is entirely different, but both are important works beyond the main terminal building of an airport.

The projects China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau now participates in within the airport construction sector are no longer limited to traditional terminal construction. Cargo, transportation organization, parking, and comprehensive supporting works are also steadily increasing. The 1.3 billion yuan figure reflects only the amounts currently disclosed for these two projects. Looking at the actual construction content, Urumqi emphasizes international cargo capacity, while Dalian revolves around a large airport's comprehensive transportation system. The simultaneous presence of China Construction Eighth Engineering Bureau in both projects also indicates that competition in airport supporting works continues to concentrate among large comprehensive construction enterprises.
